“The slowest car we have ever built”.
When the R8 was released, everyone was astounded by the look and the performance - and they were even more impressed by the advert and its intelligent slogan. Despite the fact that I was falling alseep on the sofa, the car being constructed still managed to catch my eye. Just like that, as I watched, I fell in love.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, I am not the only person in the world who loves Audi’s lovely R8. It isn’t often I see something like that - people all over the world, on television, on the web, in the media, writing or saying exactly the same things - that no matter how much they resisted, they really loved the R8. The sleek lines and good looks of the R8 seem to ensure that everyone likes it, without fail.
Even when they are chunky, Audi cars stay good looking. Comparing a car to a bull has always been one of Audis favourite metaphors, and that is the image that has buried itself in my mind. As one of thier most popular cars, the TT started the trend for good looking cars, and got even better in the new version. It was only one step up to create the wonderful car we see before us.
The Audi R8 looks stunning. The shape and low down design of this car is easily one of the best ever constructed, making me fill with excitement every time I see one zoom past. Even more than that, this car is clad in super lightweight materials, which contrast brilliantly with the verical panels and make this into even more of a supercar. Come rain or shine, that beautiful shape never fails to give me goosebumps, and that is even when they are covered in mud. As with all supercars, one isn’t enough. Audi are now releasing the R8 Spyder, just to carry on the supercar trend.
The V10 engine in this model may be packing a punch, but it is often ignored as people get sidetracked by the beautiful exterior. Having watched Iron Man and been totally bowled over, the specification didn’t tell me anything extra that I needed to know.
Impressively, if you want to own a used Audi R8 rather than an expensive new one, the cost is quite dramatically reduced. I have seen them in dealerships for around £65k, not much more than the much less attractive (but beautiful to drive) RS6. Whilst exclusivity is good, for a car like this to be a little more reasonable is a brilliant step in the right directon. Whilst we can all aspire to owning one of these, most of us can’t even afford that price, so will have to opt for a used Audi at the moment!
